It is much drier in the north. The north has less rain, humidity, and more dry wind. All these elements make for bad farming, and with bad farming come bad income. The area where Salifu lives is a much more populated area than others, so if we give her money, she will be able to start a good business and sell to many people. The government of Ghana is very similar to that of the United States. Ghana has a democratic government, and all citizens have the right to vote freely. The executive branch is headed by a president, who serves as both head of state and head of government. Owning a lot of responsibility, he is popularly elected for two four-year terms, which is exactly the same as the U.S. The Unicameral Legislature consists of a 230-seat parliament, which means that there are a lot of voices in the government, not just the leaders. The Judicial branch is the Supreme Court, same as the United States again! Salifu has a great government to support her if anything goes wrong. So why wouldn’t you trust your loan with her and her bank?

Even though Ghana has some of the most precious natural resources, the general population is poor. Yes, some of Ghana’s natural resources include gold, diamonds, and limestone. Here’s how it works. Mining for these resources creates jobs for the locals. These small scale mining jobs make them some money. But most of the money goes to the rich mine owners and government. The large mining companies don’t pay workers very much and they have bad working conditions, plus most people in Ghana rely on small scale mining for employment which also doesn’t pay much. So the general population is poor. Lucky for Salifu she is in the farming business not mining for the rich.

We think that Salifu will make lots of progress and interest, will be able to send her kids to school, feed her family, help her community, give you your money back, and have a much better life. All because of one little loan that you will generously offer. As you can see, we have confidence in both her and you!!

Life in Ghana is very hard for most people, but if Salifu gets her loan, she will be part of the small percent surviving the harsh economy in Africa. So Salifu is and would be a great investment!
